A Valentine Lunch, Lots of Gifties and the Best Craft ever!!!!

What could be better than a relaxing day planned with some girlfriends!!

We were filled to the brim with good food, lots and lots and I mean lots of presents and to finish it off an entire afternoon of creativity!!

That's what this lunch was all about!!

I need to say that my camera broke and I borrowed a camera wonderful friend came to the rescue with her camera!! But, I had no idea how to use it, so all my pictures are pretty blurry!! I do apologize for this.. it's the best I could do!!

I made these little swans to set on the table

I tucked inside each glass these little valentines pendants that I designed!!

I made these paper dresses and trimmed them with vintage pearl chain as the necklace,

lace and I also made silk rosettes.

Well, I hadn't expected this but OH MY GOODNESS!!! I couldn't believe it!! Each of the girls had been secretly planning away... they each bought goodie bags for each person... filled with all kinds of incredibly creative and generous and fun gifts... It was like Christmas except 100 times better!!!

She filled the bag to the brim

with all sorts of goodies!!!

A metallic fabric heart with beaded trim!!

I love the little spool adored

with vintage trimmings.

She made one of these for each one of us...!!

And one of these as well!!

They were all different and

special in their own way!!

Then she made us each a lavender scented

fabric heart with a key!!

Love these vintage looking trinkets!!! Can't wait to use them in something!!!

She took a clear heart and glued glitter on it from the inside.. gives the look of mercury glass!!!

I already gobbled up this chocolate!!! She printed these labels and covered chocolate bars with them!! LOVE!!!!

She printed all our names on vintage trimming!!

Carla has such a way with presentation!!

She made each one of us feel so special with her box of goodies!!!

I just love this sheet music!! You can never have enough!! I can't wait to use this in a project!!!

This is the best scented perfume!! Flowering Willow & Lotus by Lollia I just love it!! She spoiled us with this!! Such a treat!!

I am in love with the vintage Dresden and vintage "AMOUR" ribbon!!

And the Be Mine Angel!! I am glad she is mine!! hehee!! Grace added the banner, wings, and star that is in her hand on also on her head!!

After we opened all our gifts, which should have taken all afternoon!!! we were starving, so headed over the the table for a yummy lunch,

Here was the menu...

Baked Artichoke and Fontina cheese for dipping

recipe from Smells Like Home

I edited the recipe and added Artichoke... This is a great recipe that you can make the night before which I love..

Ingredients:

1 1/2 lbs fontina, cubed in 1-inch pc's

2 tbsp shallot finely diced

3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1/2 tsp butter

1/2 package of frozen artichokes thawed and drained.

6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced

1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped

1 tsp fresh rosemary, chopped

1/2 tsp kosher salt

1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Set cheese aside

Adjust top rack of oven so that it is approx. 5" under broiler unit. Preheat broiler.

In saute pan add shallots and 1 tbsp olive oil. Lightly sweat shallots until soft. Add butter, artichokes and 1/2 of all ingredients. Saute until cooked through..low heat about 3-5 minutes. let cool slightly.

In oven proof serving dish add cubed cheese and and mix in artichoke's, etc.

drizzle remaining olive oil and rest of all ingredients over top.

(At this point you can cover with plastic and put in fridge until next day.)

Bake for 6 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and melted through. Carefully remove the pan from the oven and set it on a heatproof surface. Serve immediately with fresh bread or crackers!!

We then had Fired Roasted Tomato Soup with

Crumbled bleu cheese and croutons

RECIPE:

Sweat in 2 Tbsp. olive oil:

1/2 cup shallots, chopped

1/4 cup garlic, chopped

1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes

Deglaze with:

1/4 cup dry white wine

2 cans whole fire roasted tomatoes in juice

(I roasted tomatoes whole in broiler with a little olive oil instead of canned)

2 cups chicken broth or water (I used organic chicken broth)

1/4 cup fresh basil leaves

Stir in:

3 Tbsp. sugar

2 tsp balsamic vinegar

1 bag fresh baby spinach

salt, pepper to taste

Parmesan croutons

crumbled blue cheese

Sweat shallots in oil in LARGE pot, over med. heat until soft. Stir in garlic and pepper flakes and cook 1 more minute.

Deglaze with wine, simmer until most liquid evaporated, then add tomatoes , broth and basil. Increase heat, bring to boil, reduce heat an simmer approx. 10 minutes. Puree soup with hand blender or in batches in standard blender. Return to pot and bring to simmer.

Stir in sugar and vinegar. Just before serving add spinach and season with s/p to taste.

Put in serving bowl. Garnish with blue cheese and croutons.

Ham & Cheese Sliders with Avocado

and Poppy seed dressing

recipe by: The Girl who ate everything

Recipe:

24 dinner rolls

24 good honey ham

24 small slices swiss cheese

1 ripe avocado

1/3 cup mayo

1/3 cup miracle whip

Poppy Seed Sauce:

1 tbsp poppyseeds

1 1/2 tbsp yellow mustard

1/2 cup butter, melted

1 tbsp minced onion

1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce

In a small bowl, mix together avocado, mayo and miracle whip. Spread onto both sides, center, of each roll. Place a slice of ham, and swiss on each roll. Close rolls and place them onto large baking dish or heavy cookie sheet, very close together!!

In a medium bowl, whisk together all of the poppy seed sauce ingredients. Pour evenly over all of the sandwiches. Just use enough to cover the tops. Let sit 10 minutes or until butter set slightly!! Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until cheese is melted. Uncover and cook additional minutes until tops are slightly brown and crispy. Serve warm.

After Lunch... it was time to get down to business!!

We were totally inspired by the class being held at The French General with Pam Garrison and Charlotte Lyons.. and if there were any way possible for us to fly out there and take the class personally we all would have..

Here is the inspiration behind our afternoon of creating!!

Sailor's Valentines was the theme

We each contributed to with fabric's, ribbons, bits, and bobs, antique and vintage findings, beaded appliques, etc... etc... etc... Everyone was so generous with their stash of goodies.. which allowed for each one of us to create some absolutely beautiful creations!!

Unfortunately the day is never long enough! Poor Grace had a very long drive home... Carla and Beverly had to work the next day.. so we had to part ways.. I can not wait to see the finished product from everyone!!

And I definitely can not wait to make some more.. But first I have to finish this one!!

My friend Grace from Pink in the City,

and I planned on doing on a one and one swap for a Valentine Cone.

We always like to swap with each other as well as others.. I made her a soft pink cone filled with feathers and lots of goodies. She had bought me some Lauduree macaroons when we went on a trip to Asheville this past October and I save the ribbon. I thought it would be perfect to add to her cone!! I bought her a Macaroon book and found this brand new book from Joannes, made of pink fabric paper!!! I also found some macaroon soaps from this lovely girl on etsy.. When I saw the adorable google eye fabric doll from Kimberly at ArtJoyStuff, I knew it would be perfect for Grace!!

Grace gave me this amazing huge bag! It was filled with lots and lots of goodies...

I love the pink and black polka dot cosmetic box.

One of the first things I opened was the vintage by crystal spun cotton girl..

She started this new tradition which I don't think she knows it but now she HAS to give me one every year hehehee!!!

It was "instant love" when I saw

my little bisque doll!!

OMG! I love this vintage heart planter!! How did I not every see these before!!!

I can't wait to use the Marie chipboard in a craft and just loving the antique valentines card!!!

Kisses anyone!!! She put vintage Dresden scraps, ribbon and a frozen Charlotte in these great lips!!

L-O-V-E!!

She decorated the cosmetic box with a glittered cherub!!

OH!!! And last but certainly not least!! Vintage black trim covered this cone!! She put little red roses and crystals all over and added to the tip her grandmothers vintage crystal from her chandelier!! Tear's anyone??I will cherish this forever!!

OH!! NO!! We are not finished yet!! In her over the top way... she also slipped in a Valentine Kit from Tinsel Trading!! She knows how much I love their kits.... THANK YOU!!!

I am starting to think maybe we are a couple if she keeps spoiling me this way.. .Heheee!!!

shhhh... don't tell my hubby!! heehee!!

Valentine Tussie Mussie Cone Swap 2012 results!!

Here are the results of the Valentines Tussie Mussie Cone Swap that I hosted.

WOW! Is all I can say!
The submissions were just over the top
Fabulous! Amazing!! Gorgeous!! & Creative!!
I wanted to keep every single one!! I had 30 people join. This was a crazy train for me. I had decided early on I wanted to make everyone a special giftie! So I been also sewing like crazy!!

I really wanted to show every single thing that everyone included with their swaps. There were some wonderful and generous hostess gifts. Due to the amount of cones submitted for the swap, I will post pictures of the hostess gifts in another blog post as well. If you look at the top of my post page there are tabs. One is titled Valentine Swap 2012. You can go there to see ALL the submissions and DETAIL'S (or just click here) and close ups for each individual tussie mussie. As I mentioned it would be just too much to post them all here and I try to be fair and show all the pictures. I also put a slide show at the bottom of this blog, but it will be the first time I attempted this particular one, so I do not know good it will show all the cones as of yet!!

Some More Valentines

Saturday was the first snowfall of the season!!

It was the perfect day to stay at home and work on some Valentine crafts..

Here are just a few that I made...

This was yet another in ... Ah'Hem.... a series of Valentine Tussie Mussie's

that I have been working on for my swap.

I used a beautiful white lace and pleated cotton for the base. Then I ruffled some red / white polka dot tulle. I made the medallion by cutting out a fabric trim with hearts and a cherub and added a satin ruffle around it!

I had this beautiful pink rosette fabric that I wasn't sure what to do with so I made some mini pink pillows... They just came out so darling!!

I altered this image of little people

and printed them on fabric.. Then added vintage trinkets and lace..

I made these Valentine ornaments out of card stock and added vintage dyed lace all around, then I cut out some more vintage fabric hearts and finished them with fabric rosettes...

I made this purse out of a piece of chenille and added plush damask heart and silk wings. I used a burlap strap for the strap and added a floral rosette with a vintage rhinestone pin.

I went out of my usual very safe box and had some fun stitching some crazy stitches all over this heart.

I think it came out kinda neat...

Well here it is!! New Years Eve!! WOW!! That sure went fast... I can not believe this is it!!

The beginning of a new year!!

I am really looking forward to see what's in store for 2012. I am definitely going to make some resolutions....and promise to stick with them.

If you see my new blog header, I have included a picture of myself. Something I rarely do.. if you know me, you are quite aware that I hate and I mean HATE to have my picture taken.

But this is it... It is time to finally take that step.. to admit to myself and accept me for who I am. So that is why I decided to post the picture. I have to look at it every day. And remind myself of my number one resolution...

#1 - To become healthy.

every 3 months, I will add a new picture of myself, so that you can see my progress. More importantly so I can see my progress!!

Now to the really important stuff.... I had

such a good time with the apron swap and everyone was so wonderful, and with much prodding, I have

decided to host a VALENTINE SWAP. I know, I know! It's only New Years Eve... But, if you think about it... Valentines is only about 6 weeks away.. so I thought it would be a good time to announce it so that there is time to think about weather or not you want to join and also, so there is plenty of time to make the craft.

so here it is...

A VALENTINE CONE.. or TUSSIE MUSSIE!!

That's it!! All you have to do is make a Valentine Cone... It can be paper, fabric, whatever you want it to be!! May I suggest you also fill it with all kinds of goodies or trinkets if you want! I think this will be just so much fun!! This will also be one for one. You will make one cone and send it and you will receive one in return. I will require that everyone again, send me their valentines. I will photograph them, and then redistribute them out to the other participants. Same as last time. Please include your information .. ie.. mailing address, email, and blog or website with the cone. The deadline for

signups will be JANUARY 8th. I MUST receive your cone NO LATER than JANUARY 29th. This way, I can photograph them and repackage them and get them out before Valentines. Please include $5.00 to cover return shipping..

Shipping: The post office has a shoe box shaped box and a priority mail tube box that most cones fit into. (check the size) so you can priority mail it for about $5.50. You can order these for free from the post office on line and they will ship right to your home with the links above. If you want to ship it Parcel Post, than just make sure you send it in plenty of time so it reaches me, and also leave me time to get it to the other swapper! If you are International, I require additional $$$ to cover postage. Priority mail has become very expensive for international, so shipping parcel may be the best option, but remember it will take additional time and you may not recieve yours in time for valentines... I welcome international, but just want to mention this in advance.

I received this year!!

I just LOVE the sheet music Ornament from

Carla Gizzi , she also gave me a beautiful grey wool knitted scarf, which I can't seem to take off!!! Thank you Carla!!

I received a surprise package in the mail from Miss Clause herself.. Grace, from Pink in the City beautifully wrapped in vintage paper. Inside were these gorgeous silver ornaments which I absolutely love and the vintage paper wreath with mercury beads, and the glass ball jewel decorated shown below.. Also included was a beautiful stocking which I am also in love with!! Thank you Grace!!!

Next year I am going to hang this silver plate tray on the wall and add a bow! I can't wait!!!

I love my antique mercury glass ornaments!!!

This little bisque Japan doll came from my friend Jan!! She knows me well!! Thank you Jan!!

My husband thought I was crazy to host this swap this time of year!! But I say otherwise!! What could be better than receiving packages in the mail every day full of fun surprises!!
I also figured because it was this time of year, It would be a small yet manageable swap!!

So first things first!! I HAD to make each participant a gift... Hmmmm... what was I going to make.. I thought! a TOTE!! Better yet... a festive tote so they could use it for shopping lists.. etc... only this time of year!! So that's what I did..

Here they are!!

I can not wait until the ladies see these!! I hope they like them!!!

I am so happy I hosted this apron swap!! All the "player's" have made it so much fun!! Everyone was so creative as you will see from the photo's below!! Every time, I opened a new package, I screamed with excitement!! I wanted to keep every single apron.. Each one different in their own way, but just as beautiful as the next!! I couldn't image a better group of girls to participate in the swap!!

so here it is.... The results of the Apron Swap!!

First up, is my apron. I used lots and lots of layers of lace and a beautiful satin damask fabric as the base. I made a pocket and embellished it with a flower I dyed to match. I included some little extra gifts, a brass letter, some old sheet music and book page. A vintage postcard and necklace. I also included a soldered Christmas Ornament. I hope the recipient is happy!!!

Betti, Betti, Betti!! WOW!! and OMG! Was what I said when I opened the package!! Top part is a pink salmon colored satin taffeta. The "Toast the Host" is hand painted on and then she used a sparkle fabric for the lettering!!! The skirt is a martini pattern. I also love the 2 different color tulle at the bottom!!

Susi's apron is made from vintage linen fabric. I just love the black polka dot ornaments she made for pockets. The red bows are so festive and the pom pom fringe on the skirts bottom are the perfect finishing touch!! I am a classic black and white person!! I think as the host I should be able to keep two!! Don't ya think?? Heehee!! Speaking of host! Susi made me this incredible hand dyed ink journal!! One page is better than the next!!

This is Marian's Apron. Reminds me of the Grinch who stole Christmas.. The apron is has wonderful sewn on candy canes and snowflakes!! Marian also kindly sent me a hostess gift, which is a handmade ornament, by her. It is now hanging on my tree!!

OHH! Mizz Bee!! What can one say! Just as adorable as can bee!! Marlene, poured her heart and soul into this apron.. She used a quilted satin fabric for the sides of the apron and she made her cute snowman with all vintage doilies. To add a festive touch she then covered the apron with a sparkled tulle.. I think I have the perfect recipient for this one!! heeeheee!!

Beverly's apron is simple yet CLASSIC!! But if you really look, it has gorgeous details!! She started with a vintage tuxedo shirt which she deconstructed to use as the apron top. Then she added some beautiful vintage earrings as button with a flower base so they pop!! The skirt fabric is an incredible rose motif throughout the entire piece!! The waistband is a beautiful white lace!! She also made a matching hand towel and hot pad for the lucky recipient And that gorgeous pumpkin fabric is my hostess gift from her to me... Hmmm. I think I will make a Halloween Apron from it!

MINE! is what I squealed when I opened Heidi's packaged!! She used a beautiful combination of vintage fabric's. I love it all, from the chenille Christmas tree with buttons, and vintage pin as the tree topper, to the vintage damask ruffled bottom. The pocket is made with trims and fabric from old linens as well. Heidi also included a beautiful package full of vintage fun goodies for the recipient and a handmade hand towel and a vintage sewing apparatus with a thimble as a hostess gift for me!!!

I laughed when I received Carla's! (In a good way!! )
She was sooo worried! I WAS NOT! Carla's apron is done in beautiful colors of orange and white polka dots. She hand stitched antique lace accents all over. She then added antique ribbon trim and beads. All hand sewn. Then She added a beautiful antique gold adorned trinket that she made herself!! Thank you Carla!!!

oops! Mizz Bee! You did it again!! To quote Brittney Spears, that is!! hee hee!! Boy you have been a buzy bee!! Marlene submitted 2 aprons... and she definitely put just as much creativity in this apron as the first! I can see the recipient of this one in pink high heels, serving pink Cosmo's..
you can see it too.. right!!
She made the tree from from individual strips of fabric and added for the ornaments, topped off with a vintage embellishment for the star. The apron is finished with glitter ribbon. Marlene also included some candy and my favorite malt balls as a hostess gift with this apron!!

Kelly's apron is just as cute as can be... Old fashioned 50's apron!! She used a netting as the apron skirt. Then she sewed on the most adorable felt applique's each adorned with a bit of whimsical tidbits... I love the satin tie and rick rack trim!! Thank you Kelly!!

While shopping at my favorite place, Sickles Market, the other day,

I made my way over to the Greenhouse section, and boy did I get a wonderful surprise!!

SICKLES MARKET

Being a customer of Sickles for over 20 years, I was certainly familiar with their Christmas Dept. and Displays. I have been buying antique ornaments for the past several years, and have not really looked at any of the newer ornaments. I hadn't realized all the wonderful new varieties now available until I walked through those doors!! OMG!!

A girl could go crazy broke!!

I felt like I was at a cocktail party!!
I started off with some Wine, Cheese and Bread!!

OR MAYBE A SCOTCH on the ROCKS!!

After the Appetizers, I strolled on over to the

DESSERT SECTION!!

HMMMM!!!

CHAMPAGNE and TRUFFLES ANYONE!!

ESPRESSO and TIRAMISU...

SOME DECADENT CHOCOLATE CAKE

BLUEBERRY PIE!!

Aren't they so cool! I couldn't believe it!! They look soooo real!!

Now if that wasn't enough, I looked over and I couldn't believe it!!
Sickles is now carrying Wendy Addison Ornaments!!

I usually have to go to Tinsel Trading in NY for these!!

This was certainly my lucky day!!!

I do not know of anywhere else that has such a

unique selection of scents for the home!!

Their floral dept. has the freshest and most beautiful selection of flowers. They also do some pretty spectacular centerpieces.

On a Rainy Day......

Yesterday started out as a typical rainy dreary day!! I had planned on staying home and bringing up all my Christmas decor...

but then it all changed....

I met my very good friends, Marni and Nancy for an early lunch, which actually turned into a later lunch.. By the time we were done catching up it was already 2:00. At this point, I felt it was too late to start with hauling boxes of Christmas stuff upstairs, so I decided to head over to one of my favorite shops...

SHUTTERS!!

I absolutely love this store, and have been long overdue for a visit...

Well, I was not disappointed... as usual!!

From the moment I walked in the front door, I felt the Christmas Magic!!

They are in full Christmas mode! Although Christine, (the shop owner) kept apologizing for not having the shop in order. I kept giggling inside...The shop looked beautiful!! If you are not sure how to display things, they do it for you... It's great!! They have little vignettes set up everywhere with different Christmas themes.

Not only do they give you great decorating idea's with their displays.... It is such a pleasure to shop there. Christine and her mom, Kathleen, are so friendly. I feel like I am shopping with friends. You laugh and cry and everything in between!!. I always have so much fun!! And I always leave with something wonderful!!!

I do !! I do !!!

I bought only a couple of treasures for home this time around.. I will wait until I take out my Christmas stuff, to see what I really "need".. I can not wait to go back..

My trip to Asheville, NC

Sometime ago last spring, my very bestest friend Grace from Pink in the City, and I signed up to attend a special event happening in Oct. called Once upon a dream, in Asheville, NC, hosted by Jennifer Hayslip from Sweet Eye Candy Creations.

We were so excited to go.. and have been patiently waiting for the day to come...

We signed up for some swaps. Grace & I agreed we would only sign up for two, so as not to overwhelm ourselves.. A decision I would later regret...(more about that later) ;-}

The first swap was a Fairy Laurel. Hosted by The very talented Karla Nathan..

This excited me very much. I always wanted to make something like this. So I really put myself into this one. We had to make something a fairy would wear on her head in a woodland garden setting.I started with a crown I purchased from Sherry Baldy. Then I cut it down and added lots of antique millinery flowers, some mother of pearl antique stems, lined the inside with moss. I then added some Rhinestones, and glass beads. sprinkled it with fairy glitter dust. I added some butterflies too. I added some antique lace and a frozen charlotte with wings and a laurel of her own to the back. I made a carry case out of a vintage hatbox. Covered it in burlap. and added some antique lace and a brass stencil monogram letter C. I printed out the fairy name of my swap partner and added that to the top. I still felt like I needed more so I made a frozen charlotte fairy to a ribbon spool covered in sheet music paper, and set that inside the crown. I also filled a bag of goodies with antique findings, etc..

This is my fairy laurel....

Swap number 2 was a fairy shoe. Hosted by the Sweetest Sherry Williams.

We had to take a shoe and make something a fairy would wear in the forest in soft shades of blue or cream. Then fill it with at least 10 items and display it beautifully. I used a wire shoe and filled it with a bunch vintage pearl necklace pc''s. I took antique lace, gathered it and hand sewed to to the outside rim all around the shoe, and added antique peal buttons around the lace and down the front. I made a miniature fairy with wings and added to the inside of the heal with moss and vintage millinery mushrooms. On the front I put huge feathers and added a millinery flower to the center. I then painted and glittered and decorated a basket and filled it with rhinestone tulle and added some antique trade cards, pictures, a frozen charlotte, a tintype, some antique lace, tinsel garland, antique pearl buttons, vintage jewelry, etc.. to the basket!!

Now that I am all done with my swaps, the only thing I can do is get my fingers and toes done....

OK! I'm ready!! Asheville.. Here we come!!! whoo hoo!!

After the drama of them loosing my suitcase, bad continental! bad continental!! We decided to spend the day in town shopping and eating!! The weather was GORGEOUS! Perfect fall weather for the entire trip!

We headed back to the hotel and decorated our rooms later that night! All in pink of course!! I made banners with our names on them, and bought us some pink fluffy blankets. Grace bought garlands and pink lights to also hang on the beds. She had these beautiful pillowcases, pink of course!!, made with our names and once upon a dream artwork done by the very talented Pamela Huntington. We even decorated the bathroom with pink rugs, towels and Grace bought PINK TOILET PAPER!! Haaha!

We then headed over to a local place for dinner! Loved it!!

Thursday afternoon, we met the wonderful Claudette from Pink, Poodles and Pearls.

As all the ladies from the event started arriving, it was so nice to meet all these wonderful women, with whom blogs I have read, in person. Everyone was so lovely!!

The next couple of days we spent crafting. All the events we attended were just over the top beautiful! When you walked through and entered each event, you felt like you were in a fantasy. She really thought of every last detail.

After a couple of days crafting and meeting some wonderful ladies, we headed over to the Biltmore. WOW! is all I can say about that. You were not allowed to photograph inside but it was just incredible.
After the Biltmore, we headed over to the winery for lunch and then back to the hotel to prepare for the swaps. My swap partner for the laurel was Cheryl Mylar Stoneham! Such a lovely and talented lady!! I absolutely adore the laurel she made for me.
I have found the perfect spot for it and will treasure it for years to come!!!

The shoe was a blind swap. We drew numbers and coincidentally I received the shoe from the same lady who received my shoe. This was her shoe... It was filled with all sorts of goodies!!!

After our swap exchanges, we decided to head back to the hotel get all kinds of comfy,
have a quick dinner and early night.

What does MY bathroom and...

Well, in order to answer this question properly,

I will need to go back a couple of months......

It was one early morning I was startled by the sound of dripping water.... I went downstairs and much to our dismay there was a HUGE leak in our bathroom ceiling.....

We immediately called the plumber. He had to remove part of the ceiling to get to the pipes.

By the time he was done, just about the entire ceiling had to be removed. A pipe had burst behind the tile in the tub surround area.... This was not good!!!

So here we are in the midst of a very unexpected and untimely bathroom redo...Now keep in mind, that I had just painted the bathroom in dark brown and blue, and bought all new curtains, towels, etc.... less then a year before...

Decision time!! I have to now replace all the walls, floor, tub, & tiles...do I go back to what I just did?? or ... even better totally go for a whole new look.... As mentioned I was not prepared to have to take on such a task, financially or mentally. But in the end we decided to go for it...

The only problem for the first time in our 25 years together my husband was actually voicing a very strong opinion on what he wanted and didn't want in "his" bathroom!! I think his exact words were.... "I am taking a stand for all men!!" When did this happen?? I have not been on my toes... to allow for this to happen! lol!! Let me tell you a husband with a decorating opinion can be nothing but trouble!!! For months all I was hearing was no, nope, not that one.....etc....lol!!!

was starting to listen to HIM!!

by the way...that IS a halo over his head!!

In the end, he did a phenomenal job!!

At this point you are probably asking yourself....so...what about Jenny and Aaron, from Everyday is a Holiday!!

First I need to say, my house is decorated very french country farmhouse, victorian... in the darker tones... So when this idea popped in my head...my very opinionated husband, so ooooohhhh noooo!! But I said, I am taking a stand too!!! HA!!

The inspiration:

I have always admired Jenny and Aaron's Art, but just didn't know where I could fit it in my home...

So here was my opportunity!

Now the trick was to make my husband happy and not make the bathroom too feminine...so after some very very long months... of buying and returning just about everything from the home improvements store...

you get the idea of the colors it was before !!

and... this is how it came out!!

As you can see, I ended up buying several pieces of artwork from them.. It was very difficult to choose. I love all their pieces... You can be sure I will be going back for some more!!!

I am sooo pleased with the final result!

My newly opinionated husband is just as happy!! I smile every time I go in there and look at all the wonderful touches.

Now I need to mention this last little thing....

A Swap, A lunch, and A day with Girlfriends!!!

I entered into to a Tussie Mussie / cone swap hosted by Jennifer over at Covered in Glitter

I was matched up with my bestest friend Grace, from Pink in the City!!

We agreed to do a "Easter theme" in soft pastels colors. I know Grace loves pink and I know she loves Marie Antoinette, so that is what I did.

I covered the cone in an antique damask fabric and painted it in pinks, greens, and gold. I then covered it in Glitter.

I took lots of soft Pink and Green Tulle & Ruched it. Then I applied a fabric transfer print of Marie, Embellished it w/ fabric flowers, ribbon, a green bird, etc.

I added lots and lots of goodies, to her white Easter basket which I glittered & decorated with a vintage ribbon. !!

We agreed she would come to me for the "actual swap".

Well, she arrived and surprised me with a beautiful, gorgeous cone,

Covered in a beautiful lace with the prettiest pearlescent buttons down the side, a love the soft colors and beaded tassel at the end!!!

A basket full of goodies

Oh my goodness!! I just couldn't believe all the little treasures!! Which are either now displayed in my home for Easter, or dare I say already gobbled up!!! heehee!!

We then met up another bestie of mine!! Carla from Carla Gizzi Jewelry & Home Decor and did a little shopping. If you have the opportunity to visit Carla, you really should. She has amazing "Girlie" stuff in both her shops. One in Red Bank, and One on the boardwalk of Asbury...Come visit for a day!! I'll meet you there and we can go for lunch!!!

That's actually exactly what Grace, Carla and I did! We went to a wonderful place on the boardwalk Stella Marina.....and believe me!! That is somewhere you need to go for lunch!!!

We started with an asparagus risotto.

Then we had a prosciutto, fig, and arugula sandwich with fontina cheese.

OMG!!! this was awesome!!!!

For dessert we each had

one of the best cappuchino's eva!!

After lunch we said our goodbyes to Carla and met up with yet another good friend of ours! Beverly. Now Beverly doesn't have a website yet...but she does most of the East Coast Vendor Fairs and goes by the name

So if you are going to an art retreat! Look out for her,
she has the coolest stuff!!

Beverly met us at a ribbon store!! This just wasn't any ordinary ribbon store!! This store had everything!! Of course Grace and I managed to fill some bags with some totally unnecessary ribbons to use for future projects..I know you have all been there before!! lol!!

After that we headed over to Point Pleasant and hit a few antique shops.

I bought a vintage silverplate flower frog and butter dish!!

but it was Grace who scored an

antique dress form.

By now it was after 5 o'clock and everyone was tired from our fun filled day, so we parted ways!!

I thought I would share with you some new purchases I made recently!!

I was at an antique shop in Pennsylvania and I saw these and just had to have them!!!

They are made from

Antique & Vintage tins.

Old doll heads, funnels, etc...

Just amazing!!! I will be offering these for sale on my website and for display locally at the antique shop. If you are interested in purchasing just email me.

A couple weeks ago, we took a trip to NY to the Antique Pier Show.

I was overwhelmed with all the incredible textiles they had to offer.

I was drawn to the vintage

prom dresses...

Here are just a few I came across:

This is not a prom dress, but was found in an attic. The lady said it has been tucked away since the early 1900's. It was in almost perfect condition. I JUST LOVED it and am now regretting not buying it!!

I did purchase a beautiful antique boudoir pink ostrich feather fan!! Which I absolutely love!!!

and I purchased this very Bohemian vintage skirt....although I could never actually wear it, but I thought it would look wonderful on one of my dress forms...

I also purchased some antique and vintage dolls, which I am saving for another day!!!

It's better to give than to receive??

I came home from work today and opened my mailbox..and to my surprise was a package ....

I hadn't ordered anything..It wasn't my birthday...what could it be???

The package was a old McCall's pattern. Hmmmm.....I couldn't imagine what or who it could be from but how exciting!! I opened it up and it was wrapped in pattern paper!! I am thinking...wow! this is great! I love this!!

I open the wrapping and inside I find this absolutely lovely piece of artwork..

I am totally loving this!

I need to say, I have been feeling a bit down lately, somewhat depressed to be honest, and Kimberly should know how much this gift was appreciated, and lifted my spirits...Thank you Kimberly!! I will hang it with pride and enJOY looking at it every day!!

I have always lived by the motto "it is better to give, than to receive" and I truly believe that, but it this case I have to say...

It was a REAL PLEASURE to have RECIEVED!!

Ok..so...I have to announce who the big winner is..but first I thought I would explain to you how we picked the lucky gal...after all this was a very complicated process you know..

First...we tallied up all the individual comments, reposts, etc...etc... Then, we fed the information into the computer... well unfortunately that was a bust...there were so many, the computer went on overload and conked out!! UGH!!!

Now what were we gonna do.....hmmmmm....ok..so we decided to print out all the names and entries and attached them individually to Clyde's dog biscuits... Whichever one Clyde picked first, that would be the winner!! Clyde wanted me to say, he really wasn't crazy about the idea...

Well, that didn't go over very well!! Clyde picked a winner alright!! But then he ate it!!! Didn't think of that...hmmmm..should we wait until it comes out the other end...ugh!!! I don't think so.

Now what!!!

OH!! We can take all the names and throw them up in the air and the very first one that my little niece Flavia catches, that will be the one!

OK! Here we go!!!

UT OH!! Didn't think of that...There was a seagull and it thought we were throwing bread in the air... It scooped down and ..well... sorta.. well, lets just say, my sister in law won't be back to visit for a while...

So after all that we decided to do it the old fashioned way...

We put all the names in a bowl and picked a winner..

drum roll please.....

This is the entrance way to my home...

I like to dream that when I walk into my house, I am entering a little french cottage in the countryside.... Hope you enjoy!!

We purchased this tapestry over 20 years ago at an estate sale...I love it!! What could be more French than Napoleon!!!

Here's a nice antique lion clock. His eyes shift !!!

I love this antique carved figural candlestick pair. I believe they are originally from France along with the sideboard they are sitting on!!!

This pair of Antique Victorian Beadwork's are part of a small collection I have. I didn't have anywhere to put them on the wall, so I tucked them away nicely in their spot. I get to see them everyday when I come home. They make me happy!!!
